Gibraltar Becomes A Recognised Jurisdiction in the BVI for Mutual Funds

December 2001

Gibraltar has recently been approved by the British Virgin Islands Registrar of Mutual Funds as a recognised jurisdiction. This means that in the Registrar’s view it is a jurisdiction with a sufficiently prudent system of regulation/ supervision of mutual fund business in place so as to allow him to approve applications for recognition and registration by British Virgin Islands mutual funds which list a functionary (e.g. a manager) from this jurisdiction. There are now a total of 18 jurisdictions recognised by the Registrar as set out below:

  1. United Kingdom Red Bullet
  2. United States of America
  3. Bermuda
  4. Luxembourg
  5. Switzerland
  6. Ireland
  7. Jersey
  8. Guernsey
  9. Isle of Man
  10. Hong Kong Red Bullet
  11. France
  12. Belgium
  13. The Netherlands
  14. The British Virgin Islands Red Bullet
  15. Singapore
  16. Spain
  17. Malta
  18. Gibraltar
